Sunday Connection
God speaks to us in many ways, including through the Sunday Scripture readings. The Sunday Connection provides useful background and activities to better understand the upcoming Sunday's Scripture readings, helping you to connect the Scripture to daily life in a meaningful way.
Twenty-Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time, Cycle C- Sunday, September 29, 2019
Gospel Reading
Jesus tells the parable of the reversal of fortunes between the rich man and the poor man, Lazarus.
Family Connection
Talk with your children about some of the things that they have that can be shared with others. Ask your children to describe a time when they had to share something that they had. Ask if this was easy or difficult and why. Talk about some of the ways in which your family shares your possessions. Read together Sunday's Gospel, Luke 16:19-31. Consider together some reasons why the rich man may not have shared his riches with the poor man, Lazarus. Identify some reasons why we might share our possessions with others. Make a commitment as a family to do something this week in which you will choose to share your possessions with someone in need.
It is with sadness that we inform our school community of the passing of Adrian Drane, Principal of Marist Regional College, Burnie. Adrian Drane was Principal
at Marist Regional College from 2014-2019.
Many in our Catholic and wider community are coming to terms with this great loss but are committed to continuing his legacy of compassion and kindness. Adrian was a man of deep faith and we invite you to pray for his family, friends and those in the Catholic Education community, for God to comfort them during this challenging time.

On Friday 13 September, Grade Two ventured to Cottage Kitchen Bakery as a part of their Science unit on mixtures. Students were lucky enough to receive a tour of the bakery and see how bread, pies and other pastries are made. The students tried their hand at bread roll making, enjoying these on their arrival back to school. We send a big thank you to Jennifer and Frances at Cottage Kitchen Bakery for allowing us this opportunity.
Tomorrow, Thursday, 26th September will be our annual Footy Colours Day. Each class will participate in the footy colours day parade, which will be held in the Josephite Centre from 9am. Students are able to come dressed in their favourite team colours. Students are able to order a Sav in Bread or Pie for lunch through the QKR app. These orders will be cut off at 9am Thursday morning. If you are unable to use the app, please see the office to make a manual order.
Our Parents and Friends Comittee will also be selling milkshakes on the day. These too are to be ordered through the QKR app for $1.50 each, and they can also be purchased on the day.
A reminder that the final school day for students will be tomorrow, 26th September. As Friday, 27th September is a student free day. School will resume on Monday, 14th October.
Thank you to everyone who came along to support our Movie Night and Art Gallery on Friday, 20th September, we had a great turnout!
Congratulatons to Makayla Buckby who was the winner of the 'people's choice award' for her artwork on the night.
On Saturday, 14th September we took to the courts for our second game. Burnie turned on the weather with a scorcher. This week we played Boat Harbour Primary White, we started out strong but Boat Harbour wasn’t going down without a fight. Going into the second half scores were level and our team needed to dig deep. They did just that proving once again how important it is to play as a team and trust each other coming away with the win 29-17 on the final buzzer. Best players for the match were Jasmin Wells, Alexis Donovan and Teiarnah Wilson.

We’re thrilled to be partnering with Learn2Swim Week, a Poolwerx initiative, to offer up to 5 free introductory swim lessons for all children under five in our area.
Learn2Swim Week runs from 30 September – 7 October a Poolwerx and is supported by Laurie Lawrence’s Kids Alive - Do The Five campaign. The aim of this fantastic initiative is to get children under five in the pool and learning to swim so they can start to develop the skills they need to stay safe in the water.
If you are a parent who has children under five or know someone who does, don’t miss the chance to take advantage of this great initiative or help us spread the word by letting friends and family know about Learn2Swim Week.
Knowing how to swim is a key factor in reducing the risk of childhood drowning. Learn2Swim Week makes it easy and free for parents to get their under-fives started in water safety, learning the skills that can help them get themselves out of trouble in the water. So, give us a call or email swirl@belgravialeisure.com. to book your child’s free introductory lessons. Alternatively visit http://learn2swimweek.com/ to find out more and sign up online.
We look forward to seeing you during Learn2Swim Week!
EMOTIONAL CHECK–IN
Ever picked up your kids and asked how their day was, and they give you a one word answer like “Good” or “OK”? Or you ask what happened at school today, and they answer: “I can’t remember.” Sound familiar? It’s quite possible these responses are because we are asking them questions, when their brains are really in need of food, not questions. Use the time straight after school pick up to be quiet unwind time. Instead of asking them questions, you can tell them you missed them, or you love seeing their smile when you pick them up.
When you get home, serve their after school snack and sit with them. Eat the snack with them, and make conversation. Tell them about your day – what happened, what was good, and even if there was anything bad about your day. Let them ask questions. Now you can ask them to share their day. Ask them the same questions - what happened, what was good, what was bad. Ask them if they need your help.
Term 3 is just about over and holidays are just around the corner. Take this time out from school as an opportunity to recharge your batteries with relaxed routines and quality time to reconnect by having these conversations.
By taking 5-10 minutes to sit with them, you can get an emotional check-in on where your kids are at. You can use this check-in to factor into your parenting, maybe it even explains behaviour, sleep disturbances or eating habits. I guarantee this approach will get you more than one word answers.
BREAKFAST CLUB: Next term toast will be available only, NO milo’s. Thank you to the parents that have assisted delivering this service to those students in need so far this year.
Donations welcome - Vegemite, Butter or honey.
