Sunday Connection
Third Sunday of Lent, Cycle A - Sunday, March 15, 2020
Gospel Reading John 4:5-42
Jesus reveals himself to the Samaritan woman at the well. (shorter form: John 4:5-15,19b-26,39a,40-42)
Family Connection
Lent is a season for repentance. It is a season during which we are called to reflect upon and to live deeply the promises of Baptism. The well and the conversation about water immediately recall for us the Sacrament of Baptism. As the Samaritan woman was converted and sent on a mission because of the conversation about water, we too are converted and sent by our Baptism to preach the good news of Jesus to others.
Take this opportunity to reflect upon the importance of Baptism with your family. If you have photos or other mementos of your family’s Baptisms, bring them out and take some time to recall the day of Baptism and its importance to you and your family. Create a prayer table that includes these mementos and a bowl of holy water. After you have spent some time talking about Baptism, invite everyone to listen carefully and prayerfully to Sunday’s Gospel. Read John 4:5-42 together. Ask how Jesus’ meeting with the woman at the well is like Baptism. (Jesus knows the woman’s sin and forgives her. The woman comes to know Jesus as the Messiah. The woman invites others to meet Jesus.) Pray a prayer of blessing for each member of the family that God will help each one live the promises of his or her Baptism. Pray together the Lord’s Prayer.

Students who are leaving during school hours are required to be signed out via the front office. This includes children being collected early. Should you need to collect your child early please put a note in the diary or see our front office staff and we will collect your child for you. This helps us limit interruptions to class time particularly on days with specialist lessons. Thank you for your cooperation with this.

Last week Grade 1 and 3 led us in a World Day of Prayer Liturgy. World day of prayer is held each year on the first Friday in March. Throughout the entire day, people in more than 170 countries collectively pray all over the world. The World Day of Prayer 2020 host country this year is Zimbabwe and the theme is “Rise! Take Your Mat and Walk” (John 5:2-9). They shared with us the message of Jesus encountering others and to be a call to act in love for peace and reconciliation.

We are now taking names for any children who would like to play hockey this coming season. Please put their name down on the form provided at the front office. The season usually commences late in April or early May.
Training is on a Wednesday afternoon at the Smithton Turf and it is the parents responsibility to transport their child to the ground. Kinder - Grade 2 play on Saturday mornings usually at 9am and Grades 3-6 play on Friday nights usually from 4-6pm. Please make sure you are able to commit to these days and times before allowing your child to play as it is important for the teams to have players turn up to games.
There will be a registration fee to play and all children will need a hockey stick, mouth guard and shin pads to play.

FRIDAY - 20TH MARCH 2020
“Take Action Together”
What would you do?
What is National Bullying, No Way! Day?
- We’re joining the nationwide movement with schools across Australia to Take Action Together against bullying on Friday 20 March 2020.
- We’re proud to be an NDA school!
- We’re proud to say ‘Bullying. No Way!’ We are putting our anti-bullying initiatives in the spotlight and calling on our school community to stand with us on Friday 20 March 2020.
- At our school, we encourage students to take hold of the issue and talk about what works. Let’s support our students to drive powerful messages and take action to prevent bullying.
- The NDA promotes school, parent and community partnerships to build supportive learning environments and find workable solutions to address bullying.
- Together we can make change. Everyone has a role to play in supporting young people in dealing with bullying and helping to energise positive discussions about the issue.
- Students have a voice in talking about bullying on the NDA 2020. It’s important we include them in finding solutions.
- Help our school community deliver a powerful message that bullying and violence are never okay. Join us on the NDA and get involved in our school activities.
Whole school approach: The theme for this year is “Take Action Together”, as Bullying is everyone’s responsibility. We will be inspiring our students to have a voice and talk about what works, having conversations and discussing ideas about creating a future without bullying. We will be empowering our students to have a voice and stand up instead of stand by. Lessons next week will be involving activities and whole classroom discussions around developing strategies on how to respond to bullying. Our role is to foster a positive school climate, which features respect and inclusion.
