While many world leaders have seen their popularity increase during the pandemic, only some appear to have captured the national mood in a way that has helped them lead their citizens.
The coronavirus pandemic has tested leaders around the world. How they respond to the crisis has impacted on the health and wellbeing of their people, but also these leaders' support. Some have been criticised for their handling of the crisis while others have managed to capture something more intangible than just better poll numbers. They've demonstrated empathy with their voters, showing unexpected strength or wisdom.
We have witnessed political leaders be like those in our Church, merciful, take responsibility for the people and accompany them like the good Samaritan, who washes, cleans and raises up his neighbor. This is pure Gospel. The structural and organizational reforms are necessary, but with reform, must also be attitude. Leaders need to be people who can warm the hearts of the people, who walk through the dark night with them, who know how to dialogue and to descend themselves into their people’s night, into the darkness, but without getting lost.
I invite you to unite in Prayer for world leaders and for those closer to home, those who represent us locally, that they work together in pursuing dialogue and finding solutions to regaining peace and unity.
Holy Scripture proclaims God’s love. This love “comes from God and unites us to God; through this unifying process it makes us a ‘we’ which transcends our divisions and makes us one, until in the end God is ‘all in all’ (1 Cor 15:28).”
Enrolments are now open for 2021. If you or someone you know of is interested in enrolling for the 2021 school year please contact the office for an Enrolment Pack. Our Kinder 2021 timeline is currently being reviewed with COVID-19 restrictions in mind. All enquiries welcome!
St Peter Chanel Board would like to commend Mrs Gretton and staff for anticipating the effects the COVID-19 would have on our children's learning. Staff accepted the challenge and worked together to find the best way to make learning at home interesting and fun. Children were given activities to complete at home in the event of school closure. Term Two has been well planned and executed. Seesaw has proven to be a valuable tool but without teachers' input, parents would not be able to achieve successful results. Daily routines and activities posted have allowed a smooth transition to home learning. Prompt responses to messages, queries and their feedback has been greatly appreciated. Thank you to parents and carers for accepting extra demands learning from home has presented. To the students, what a change, and thank you for completing your tasks in your new classrooms. We are sure you are looking forward to returning to school, meeting friends and staff.
Due to having an excess of Spray Jackets. These will now be for sale for $20 down from $60. Once we sell out of these we will not be getting any more. Please either order on the Qkr app or contact the office to purchase one.
Students are now required to be wearing Full Winter uniform as previously communicated.
If you have any uniform requirements please contact our office staff or you can place an order through the Qkr! App where it will be sent home the following day.
A reminder also that non-school jackets (i.e. Puffer jackets) are discouraged.
We are looking for some relief cleaners for our school. If this is something you or someone you know of may be interested in please contact Mrs Melissa Thorp via email at melissa.thorp@catholic.tas.edu.au. Our cleaning takes place in the mornings before school from 6.00am - 9.00am and all staff are required to hold a current WWVP card.
School Banking is on hold at the moment due to COVID-19. We will be guided by the Commonwealth Bank as to when this will be allowed to resume. Thank you for your patience.
Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions we are unable to allow families to bring in cakes and cupcakes for birthdays. Our students' health and wellbeing is our priority and that means no sharing of food. Thank you for your understanding with this matter. This will be assessed again at the beginning of Term 3.
Wells Waggons has advised the Fare amnesty has been extended until Sunday 5th July. This means no fares to be paid until Term 3.
Students travelling on fare paying school buses should arrange to purchase 10-trip tickets (in Term 3) to minimise the number of transactions where a non-cash option is not available. https://coronavirus.tas.gov.au/families-community/public-transport?fbclid=IwAR1H4kQsf_qvC8U_4VAgJiYxeAbdqGsHadIcMVgv-47OifjYyS4fTVRM360
On Tuesday, 2nd June, our P & F committee held a meeting via Zoom. This was the first official form of communication for our committee and was somewhat different to our usual buzzing of fundraising ideas. We DID have ideas, but due to current and continuing Covid-19 restrictions, we are limited with what we can pursue in regards to activities.
Rest assured, our dedicated members have come up with some exciting and appropriate ways to help our school with identified needs. Stay tuned for news on what will be happening in our community soon!
Please note for people having issues with the Qkr app that it may require an update via your App Store or Google Play.
The decision has been made that our current Grade 4/Grade 5 cohort will go to Canberra in 2021. Most likely in September. This decision has been made as the deposits paid for the Canberra and Sydney accommodation are non-refundable and unless we travel in 2021 these deposits will be lost.
We will plan something for the Grade 6 group at the end of the year to utilise some of the Canberra Fundraising money as a celebration of their primary school years. We will advise further details in due course.
Will be visiting the Grade Five Class on Friday as part of their report on the NBN as St Peter Chanel was one of the first schools to have the NBN installed. We ask that Grade 5 students are dressed in their Full Winter uniform. We will advise families when this will be aired on ABC once we have been advised.
We officially welcome Mrs Deni Fraser to Kindergarten as extra support in the classroom.
We also welcome this week five new calves. From next week, each class will be on roster for a week to bottle feed the calves with the supervision of David Plaza.
As we are unable to resume our normal Learning Treasures sessions for the foreseeable future we have created a facebook group for our families. This group has been designed for families to continue and join in with our weekly activities. To join this group all you need to do is search for ‘St Peter Chanel - Set Up for Success - Learning Treasures’ in the facebook search bar.
Congratulations to the following students who received Aiming High awards last week:
