Sunday Connection - Twenty-Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time, Sunday, September 27, 2020
Gospel Reading Matthew 21:28-32
Jesus poses a question to the chief priests and elders on the meaning of obedience.
Family Connection
The example Jesus poses in Sunday’s Gospel could have been taken directly from family experience. Each of us can recall instances in which family members spoke one thing but then did another. The point of Jesus’ story is to show that our actions speak louder than words, even with God.
As you gather as a family, talk about times when a family member said one thing and then did another. Acknowledge that sometimes the action taken displays a true change of heart. Then read Sunday’s Gospel, Matthew 21:28-32. Observe that Jesus faulted the religious leaders for not allowing John the Baptist’s message of repentance to change their hearts and actions. The word we sometimes use for this change of heart is conversion. Jesus wants us to do more than pay lip service to the Gospel; he wants us to be transformed by his word.
Pray together that your family will experience a conversion to God and show evidence of this in both actions and words. Pray together Sunday’s second reading, Philippians 2:1-5.
We ask that families please continue to use the following options of communication with the school rather than face-to-face as follows:
- Calling on 6452 1431
- Emailing spc@catholic.tas.edu.au
- Writing messages in your child’s diary
- Contacting teachers via SeeSaw or email
For Assemblies, we ask that people please enter via the front office and use the hand sanitiser upon entry and sign in which is a Government requirement. Please adhere to the 1.5m social distancing and refrain from entering the school if you are unwell.
It is with great sadness that we will be saying goodbye to Denise Spinks who is moving to the Sunshine State to be with her family. Her last day with us is 20th October.
We thank her for all she has done within our school community and wish her all the best.

A reminder for families that Friday, 25th September is a student free day.
Students from Kinder to Grade 6 will participate in 'Circle of Life' sessions during Week 2 of Term 4.
'Circle of Life' provides a Catholic approach to Relationships and Sexuality education for the Health and Physical Education learning area of the Australian Curriculum. It complements the Good News for Living Religious Education curriculum of Catholic Education Tasmania.
Using group presentations, personal stories, digital resources, creative activities, and small group discussions, 'Circle of Life' engages young people in reponding to the challenges of growing up and making healthy decisions for themselves and others.
There will be a parent session providing further information. Further details will be sent home at the start of Term 4.
Father Christopher has headed back to India this week. We thank him for his involvement with our school and wish him all the best. The students presented him with a card at our final Mass with him.
We welcome Father Crisanto Mendoza from the Launceston Parish.
Kinder and Prep have showcased their work this week. They have been learning about the Sacraments of Baptism and Eucharist.
On Sunday 4th, October there will only be a 9am Mass at Smithton. Unfortunately, there will be no Mass at Stanley on this day.
Holiday Stress Relief
Through Music
Music can have a profound effect on both the emotions and the body. It’s quite clear in this age of constant pressure and commitments that stress levels are spiked regularly. Stress can increase the risk of health issues like heart disease, asthma, obesity, gastrointestinal problems, and more. If we want our mind and body to last, we need to prioritise giving them a rest. Music is an easy way to take some of that pressure off; appointments, emails, texts and deadlines that can easily spike your stress levels and leave you feeling drained and anxious.
Research has found that listening to music around 60 beats per minute can reduce stress. Native American, Celtic, Indian stringed instruments, drums, and flutes are all very effective at relaxing the mind. Sounds of rain, thunder, and nature may also be effective.
Check out the app Relax Melodies.
It’s important to find music that you like and then it must relax you. Quieting your mind means your brain and body are relaxed making you feel soothed while releasing the stress of the day. With your new calm self, you can then function at your best in many activities.
Experience a “Sound Bath” and experiment now with the suggestions below:

Thank you to those families that have replied about the upcoming School Basketball Tournament in Devonport on 7th and 8th November.
We can confirm that we will register teams for Grade 3/4 boys, Grade 5/6 Girls and Grade 5/6 Boys.
Further details will be advised in Term 4.
St Peter Chanel provides the following Apps for families to download.
The Qkr! App is is a free app that enables payments via credit card. This app allows parents to use their tablets or phones to order uniform, lunch orders and special events without having to give their children cash to carry to school.
Students have the option until the end of Term 3 to wear either uniform, however, there is to be no mixing of Winter/Summer uniforms, please.
A reminder that it is a requirement for students to wear hats at Recess and Lunchtime when Term 4 commences.
We also offer a variety of secondhand uniforms. These are not available on the Qrk! App so please contact the office if you require any.
Just a reminder that if your child is away from school please notify the office of their absence. This can be done via email, Facebook or by calling the school office.
