Happy Easter and Holiday Break
This week’s reflection derives from John Mula, the Executive Director of Catholic Education Tasmania. He highlights lines from a Bob Dylan song;
“Then you’d better start swimming
Or you’ll sink like a stone
For the times, they are a changin’.”
Change can sometimes be stressful, but difficult change can also be personally and/or professionally rewarding. Without a willingness to change and to challenge ourselves, we can remain trapped in the past, locked into our conditioned patterns of behaviour. Life-changing events such as a major illness, loss of a job, breakdown of a relationship or the death of a loved one can bring with them deep pain, but also opportunity to challenge ourselves.
If we have had a difficult experience in our life, we might need someone or something to get things started again. Accepting what’s happened to us will not change our circumstance but it can change our thoughts and feelings. There is no doubt that it takes courage to maintain a focus on the change we need to achieve and it takes wisdom to perceive problems as opportunities for personal development.
Living is a mix of experiencing both paths of life, peace and turmoil, opportunity and disappointment, gain and loss. However, obstacles, setbacks and hard times have the potential to make us the best we can be. So, during this Lenten period may it be a time to consider changes that will enable us to be truer to ourselves.
As a collective, today and in coming weeks, please keep the Marist Regional College Community in our prayers. It is a challenging time for our colleagues and students and we support the Marist Regional College Leadership Team throughout the remainder of this term and going forward.
Let us pray
May God heal body and soul.
May pain cease, may strength increase, may fears be released,
May blessings, love, and joy surround all.
Amen
This year we are celebrating Feast Day on Thursday, 2nd May which is the first Thursday back for Term Two. The proceeds from this will go towards the 2020 Canberra Trip for our current Grade Four and Five students. We ask if parents of the Grade Four and Grade Five students kindly donate ice cream to go with dessert for this day.
This will be celebrated with a Roast Meal for $8 per student and includes roast pork, chicken, vegetables and gravy, along with apple pie/crumble served with ice cream.
To purchase a meal for your child please use the Qkr app, same as for canteen ordering. If you do not have the app you can pay at the office no later than 9am on Thursday, 2nd May. However, earlier orders would be greatly appreciated for ease of catering.
As ANZAC Day falls during the holidays, our school leaders will be representing SPC at a special service being held at 2pm at Emmerton Park on Wednesday, 24th April and at the Smithton Cenotaph on the 25th April at 10:30am. Mrs Gretton will accompany the school captains at Emmerton Park and Mrs Jaffray Morf will accompany the school captains to the Smithton ceremony.
Anzac Day goes beyond the anniversary of the landing on Gallipoli in 1915. It is the day on which we remember all Australians who served and died in war and on operational service past and present. The spirit of Anzac, with its qualities of courage, mateship, and sacrifice, continues to have meaning and relevance for our sense of national identity.
As the cold weather is beginning to set in, we will start transitioning into Winter uniform as of next term. There will be a two week changeover period which will allow students to wear either winter or summer uniform. At the beginning of week three, students will need to be in full winter uniform.
If you need to purchse any new uniform, see Sarah at the office.
Auskick returns to Circular Head in Term Two kicking off on Friday May 10th at the Smithton Rec, 4-5pm and continuing until Friday 12th July. Open to boys & girls from Kinder- Grade 6.
Cost involved is $85 per child. You may be eligible to redeem a voucher from Ticket to Play to assist with the cost of registrations. Check the website for more information.

For any further information please contact Thalia on 0427605314.
As a Canberra Trip Fundraiser, our Grade Four and Five students are organising a Mother's Day Stall for Thursday, 9th May. We are asking the Grade Four and Five students and parents to support this fundraiser by donating home-cooked items or getting creative at home and making craft items. Any donations would be greatly appreciated.
Today our Grade One and Grade Four students presented the Palm Sunday, Prayer Service. Palm Sunday is the first day of Holy Week which begins on Sunday the 14th of April. Grade Three will present the Last Supper tomorrow in the Josephite centre at 11:30am and our Grade Six and Prep students will present the Stations of the Cross on Friday at 11:30am. Feel free to come along and join us as we reverently reflect on this very special time leading up to Easter.
This Lenten season is themed ‘Give Lent 100%’. By supporting Project Compassion in our school community we can empower communities with hope and help those in great need to shape a better future for themselves, their families and their communities. Lives change when we all give 100%. Please continue to use your Project Compassion money box either at school or at home. If you have filled your money box please return it to the front office. Spare money boxes are available at the front office if needed.
Is your child in Grade 2 or above and interested in participating in the 2019 Sacramental Program? There will be an information session held after 10:30 Mass on Sunday, 5th May. If you would like a registration form, or to find out more information, please contact the school office.
Term 1 is just about complete and lots of children are looking forward to a break, to catch up on some sleep and free time. They all deserve this time, including teachers and staff, after a great start to the year. During these holidays we are also celebrating Easter, what does this mean for you and your family? Enjoy the break and allow creativity flourish with some activities I have added.
